Hey! It’s V-Day!
I woke up this morning and found No Ordinary Man, one of my backlist romantic suspense novels, on a 99-cent e-sale in the U.S. (sorry non-US readers!) via my publisher Harlequin/Silhouette Books.

Surprise! (They never tell me anything!)
Anyway, just a quick note to share that info with those of you who reside in the U.S. (As always, apologies to my Canadian, UK and other non-US readers. I really don’t know why H/S hates you. JK…? Honestly, I don’t understand why they don’t make their e-book sales available worldwide! I’m so sorry I haven’t been able to make that happen!)
You can find links to all of your favorite (US!! Sorry!!) ebooksellers on my website’s NOM page: https://suzannebrockmann.com/books/no-ordinary-man/
No Ordinary Man is a book I originally published with Harlequin’s Intrigue line of category romances waaaay back in the mid-1990s.
It features a hero that the heroine suspects might be a serial killer. So yeah, stuff happens.
Funny story—I wrote the book early in my career, and it was immediately rejected by all of the publishers I was working with at that time (Silhouette Intimate Moments and Bantam Loveswept) and every other publisher in the world, because it was allegedly “too gritty.” Most of the book was written from the heroine, Jess’s, point of view—I purposely kept readers from getting too deeply into Rob’s perspective, because I wanted you to share Jess’s wariness.
Anyway, traditional publishers found the book too untraditional, I guess. But a few months later, I saw a notice in RT (remember Romantic Times Magazine?!) that Harlequin Intrigue was specifically looking for books for a new “Dangerous Heroes” sub-line. Yeah! Have I got a book for you!! I immediately sent NOM in their direction, and sure enough, they snapped it up. (Later, I received many reviews of my books that described my writing as “deliciously gritty,” which just goes to show that one person’s “too-too” is another’s “delicious!”)
Here’s the blurb for No Ordinary Man, which is set in Sarasota, Florida in the groovy 1990s:
Vital Statistics of Rob Carpenter:
early thirties
traveling consultant
no family
likes Chinese takeout and action movies
That was all Jess Baxter knew about her newest tenant, Rob Carpenter. That and the fact that he liked her daughter — and was the sexiest guy she’d ever met. But as Jess found out, no one got to know the elusive Mr. Carpenter. He was a master at dodging questions…and igniting her desires.
But then the murders started — all women who looked like Jess. And the profile of the killer matched Rob…. Was Rob an innocent victim — or had his burning kisses only been a smoke screen? One thing was certain: Rob Carpenter was no ordinary man.
Dahn dahn DAHN!!!!
No Ordinary Man is e-priced at a can’t-lose 99-cents. I’m not sure how long the sale will last (see above, re: they never tell me anything!), so grab it while you can!
Okay! I hope you’re having a great February.
I’m hanging in there—As a member of Simon Rosenberg’s Hopium Community, I volunteer-phonebanked for last night’s special election in NY-3. Our victory was sa-weet! I used to live in NY-3, by the way!! Just for senior year of high school. I actually worked at Adventureland Amusement Park (the one from the movie!!) when I wasn’t playing my guitar and singing in coffeehouses and wine-and-cheese bars. Have I mentioned that Jess, the heroine of NOM is a singer-songwriter? I did that from age 17 through 23, although I moved from acoustic to electric guitar around age 19, when I started a rock band up in Boston!
But back to NY-3’s special election. It was fun to call people who live in that district and have their sassy New York attitudes trigger mine! It was even more fun when my candidate, Tom Suozzi, won the night by a very, VERY large margin.
If you’re looking for a way to live through 2024’s terrifying upcoming election and help democracy survive the current anti-democractic onslaught of BS, I highly recommend joining Simon’s Hopium Community. I’ve been volunteering with them (and getting Simon’s hope-inducing and inspiring daily newsletter) since the group started. His mantra is “Do more, worry less.”
Can confirm!
Okay, that’s all for me today!
Vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote! (And check your voter registration!!)
Love and hugs—and remember that love always wins! Don't stop fighting for democracy, equality, equity, peace, and hope,
Suz
