News from Suzanne Brockmann

YOU GUYS!!

A week ago, my son, Jason, got married to Matt, the man of his dreams!Yeah, I know this isn't news about upcoming books, but I wanted to share some links to some truly amazing photos with you! Some of you have been reading my books since Jason was a very small boy.  My first book was published in 1993, when Jace was eight years old.

This is the photo he used for his first audition, at age eight, for a semi-pro production of Oliver! where he played the tiniest pickpocket in Fagin's gang! Some of you only truly "met" Jason when I wrote the acknowledgment page for HOT TARGET, the book where FBI Agent Jules Cassidy first meets actor Robin Chadwick.  And yeah, I created Jules Cassidy for Jason -- for a lot of reasons.  First, I wanted all of my readers to have a gay best friend -- and to watch as Jules and Sam became friends, too.  I wanted to show that there was nothing scary or weird or wrong about being gay.  Just like Jason was born that way, Jules was, too.  And so many of you fell in love with Jules, and for that I'll forever be grateful! But I also created Jules because I wanted Jason to see his reflection in popular genre fiction -- an out, proud, heroic gay man who was respect by the SEALs he often worked alongside!Back when Jules first walked onto the pages of THE DEFIANT HERO (the first Troubleshooters book in which he appeared), the idea of marriage equality was a misty, hopeful dream. But oh, I dreamed it!  I dreamed of someday dancing at my Jason's wedding.  And last week I did!

So thank you. Some of you stood beside me from the start.  Others got to know Jules and came to realize that he should have the same rights as every romance hero -- the ability to marry the man of his dreams, and to dance at his own wedding.  Thank you.All of you were there with me in spirit, and I had a great time! And my son is now married to a wonderful man who loves him, heart and soul. A mother couldn't ask for more than that.  (Photo below taken by my sister-in-law! Thanks, Mary Anne!)
