My Favorite Romance of 2023 and a Virtual Event Tonight !! Curves for Days is finally here!
I loved this book.I think you'll love it, too. Even though it's only August, I'mma go out on a (very secure) limb and say that Laura Moher's debut contemporary romance novel, Curves for Days is my favorite book of 2023.Yeah, it's that good. And it's available now.RIGHT now! (Oh, I'm so envious (and excited!) that many of you will now get the chance to read this book for the first time!)Curves for Days is funny, sweet, spicy, fresh, and so, so, SO satisfying. Need more info? Here's what I wrote to Laura's editor after reading an ARC of CURVES FOR DAYS:
What a wonderful book!
I loved it. It was one of those situations where I opened the file merely to take a quick look, without intending to read any of it (I had other work to do!), yet suddenly I blinked and I was on page 95. I read it pretty much in two sittings—it’s so so SO good—I cannot remember the last time I did that.
I really am incredibly jaded and picky and the past few years of living in this dumpster fire of a world has made me even more so. I do not love many books, in fact most I start don’t get finished. I’ve been on about a fifteen-year slump.
But Curves for Days made me remember why I love the romance genre so passionately. Laura’s voice is crazy entertaining, and her storytelling skills are first rate—she made me laugh and touched my heart, too. I fell instantly head over heels in love with Rose—what an excellent, fresh, funny, relatable character, in a delightful situation. And military veteran Angus… Whew. Brilliantly done.
This is an excellent, funny, heart-warming story that contains all of the absolute best that the romance genre can deliver. When the book ended, I left the vibrant and charming town of Galway immensely satisfied—and eagerly looking forward to whatever Laura writes next! (Although I desperately hope for a sequel!)
Thank you so much for letting me read an arc of this amazing book. You’ve got something really REALLY great here!
Here's the ***starred*** review of CURVES FOR DAYS from Library Journal (CFD also got a starred review from Publisher's Weekly! I am not alone in my deep love for this wonderful book!):
Alice Rose Barnes has spent the last 16 years alone, unable to trust anyone after a traumatic high school experience. Then she wins the lottery, and suddenly people she barely knows are calling and banging on her door. Desperate for peace and frightened for her safety, Alice runs away, eventually landing in Galway, NC. Using the name Rose, she begins to make friends and build a life there, all while hiding the fact that she’s now a multimillionaire. When she employs grumpy carpenter Angus Drummond to do extensive renovations on her new house, she doesn’t realize how much he’s going to change her life. Angus is happy to have finally found someone who is open and honest, with no pretenses or secrets—except Rose does have a secret. The protagonists of this opposites-attract, enemies-to-lovers romance are authentic and relatable. Their sexual tension is instant, and the slow burn of their relationship realistic. Rose’s past trauma is revealed gradually and is treated sympathetically, as is Angus’s (and other military veterans’) mental health issues. VERDICT Readers will love the banter between Rose and Angus and cheer them on as they slowly build their relationship.—Heather Miller Cover

Okay, that's my news.Oh, except for the fact that I'm finally watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and after nearly 50 years of hardcore Trek fandom, my new all-time favorite captain is Chris Pike (I was Team Jim Kirk for DECADES!!) so "Hit it" indeed! AND... I'm all-in crazy-shipping Spock and Nurse Chapel. I know, I know, WTF...?! But, really!! Whew! Damn! Ethan Peck's portrayal of Spock (along with the writers who are bringing us ST: SNW !!) is making me remember why he's my all-time favorite fictional character. And Jess Bush (Chapel) is killing it, too. Also...? I find I can no longer spend time on that-which-was-once-Twitter, although I will pop in to drop news. If you want to reach me, you can respond to this email, or, for a quicker response, you can contact me at the email address on my website "About" page: https://suzannebrockmann.com/about/Okay, that's really all. I hope to see many of you at the Curves for Days event tonight! (You can also order the book from Magers & Quinn! It's great to support indie bookstores!)
