Happy Valentine’s Day!
To celebrate, I've finally reissued 1997’s Forbidden and it’s on e-sale! Forbidden is the first in my two-book Bartlett Brothers series featuring Cal and Liam Bartlett, and it contains lots of crunchy 1990s goodness! (No security lines in the airports! Pay phones instead of cells! Investigative newspaper reporters who earn a living! Questionable fashion choices including a fanny pack worn unironically!) It’s the story of Montana rancher Cal Bartlett, who raised his ten-years-younger brother after their parents died in a tragic car crash when he was just fifteen. Cal loved his little bro and made sure Liam got all of the opportunities that he himself never had—education, a chance to travel—because he was raising and feeding a kid. With Cal’s blessing, Liam left their ranch and went off to school in Boston. He got a job as a war correspondent with the Boston Globe and (you know where I’m going here) regularly flew to dangerous places to do what he loved: report the news. Two years ago, just after proposing marriage to a young woman that he’d recently met, Liam traveled to the tiny but turbulent island nation of San Salustiano, where he was killed in a devastating bus bombing. Cal accepts the harsh reality of his brother’s death. He’s grieved for years, but he finally starts looking ahead to his own life when he rescues Kayla, a city-dweller from back east, who wanders onto his ranch during an unexpected September snowstorm. He’s captivated by everything about the young woman—her courage and ingenuity, her strength and intelligence—and they share a fireside kiss that rocks his world. Until the next day, when he realizes she’s his dead brother’s almost-fiancée—and that she’s come to Montana to tell him about the whispers of rumors about the blond American man being held in a secret prison deep in the jungles of San Salustiano. Kayla’s determined to travel to the (still dangerous!) tiny island nation to discover the truth—and she needs Cal to come along, pretending to be her boyfriend as their “cover.” Spoiler alert: He goes. And drama, emotion, highjinx, and danger ensue. The book includes some fun “fake/pretend boyfriend,” and “she’s my brother’s girlfriend” tropes. It’s a romantic adventure/suspense with strong rom-com elements, and may I mention again that it was first published and is still set in glorious 1997...? Forbidden was originally published as a category romance by Bantam Loveswept. Ooh, one last thing! Back in the 1990s, when I was a still-new category romance author, I always tried to get my various publishers to create cover art that included my short-haired heroines. The closest we ever got was the awful-in-other-ways original cover for 2000’s Get Lucky. But I was always asking not for shoulder-length-bob short, but short short, the way Kayla’s hair is described in Forbidden. Nearly twenty-five years later, I finally got it! Audiobook News!
April 13th is the official release date of the Blackstone Audio edition of King’s Ransom! The one-and-only Dion Graham will be reading LT Thomas King’s POV scenes, with the amazing Melanie Ewbank reading Tasha Francisco’s scenes. And because it doesn’t quite feel like a Brockmann Navy SEAL audiobook without reader-and-author-favorite Patrick Lawlor’s sharply humorous delivery involved, Blackstone is bringing him in to read Navy SEAL Petty Officer Rio Rosetti’s scenes! As always, I’ll send out another enews announcement on that April audio release date! And, in case you missed it or are new to my newsletter list, King's Ransom, the 13th and final installment in my Tall, Dark and Dangerous series about Navy SEAL Team Ten, finally arrived in December 2020! Do me a huge-large (as Izzy Zanella might say), and help me spread the word about Forbidden’s e-sale to your friends and family. I'd appreciate that so very, very much! (Thank you!!) I also sincerely appreciate when after reading any of my books you post your honest review on your favorite online bookseller! Thank you for that, too! Happy Valentine’s Day! Ooh, I wanted to report that my 89-year-old mom and 90-year-old dad literally won a county lottery here in Florida, and have received their first shot of the Moderna vaccine. They’ll be going back (drive through!!) for shot number two in just a few more days. (Not a minute too soon!)Stay safe, wear your mask(s), wash your hands! I appreciate everything you do to help keep your friends, family, and neighbors with health issues (like me!) safe! Thank you for your time and attention! As always, please feel free to email, blog, post, tweet, and/or share any or all of my news with your social circle! I appreciate it when you do! Love and hugs and don't stop fighting for equality, equity, peace, hope, and love,
