Hey, readers!
It’s election season, and if you’re scrambling to follow Michelle Obama’s directive to “Do something” to help save the country and the world from Trump & Project 2025, well, here’s an easy and fun something for you to do!
Phonebanking with the Romance Writers and Readers of Fated States (and Indivisible!)Saturday, September 7th, 1 - 3 pm ETSign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/665082/
Yeah, it’s phonebanking, to engage Democratic voters in Pennsylvania and I know that can be scary, but here’s the thing: While you need a laptop and cellphone to phonebank, you don’t use your own phone number. The people you’re calling don’t know it’s you. So you can channel your own inner Alyssa or Sam or Jules and make these calls with the help of their absolute pro-Democracy joy, energy, hope, and confidence!
Training to learn how to phonebank is provided during the session—so if you’re new, no worries! You’ll have plenty of time to learn the process. (And if you’ve done phonebanking before, you can jump right in!) In advance of making calls, we get all sorts of detailed info about the state’s down ballot candidates, early voting dates and registration deadlines, and info about any important amendment on the ballot—like restoring or preserving abortion and other women’s rights. So those resources, along with other websites that assist people like Vote.org are all right at the tip of our fingers when we talk to voters!
And we really are just… talking to other voters. Making sure they know how important it is to make a plan to vote as early as they can. Voting via mail or on Day One of early voting is important! If likely Democratic voters (like you and me) vote ASAP, this allows the Democratic campaigns to focus their get-out-the-vote resources (money and volunteer time!) on registered Democrats who are less likely to vote, thus enormously expanding the Dem turnout! It also engages those less likely voters who see our huge Day-One turnout numbers and want to be part of our massive and joyful movement! (It really does work! I’ve done a LOT of this type of phonebanking and GOTVing, so I’m speaking from experience!!)
ANYWAY… The session with Fated States goes from 1 pm (ET) to 3, but hey, if you can only come for 30 mins, that’s okay, too! (Come and give it a try!!)
We start with a few minutes of socializing. Last time (on 8/24), over 80 romance writers and readers showed up, and it was a lot of fun! Fates States had several surprise guests for us on August 24th: Priscilla Oliveras and Julia Quinn! Priscilla’s a longtime, hardcore Fated States participant so it was great to check in with her! Julia appeared at the end of the phonebanking, and we all got to hear about her impressive efforts to support Harris/Walz and Democrats all the way down the ticket!!
I’m excited to see who this week’s special guests will be!! Join us to find out!!
There’s a bingo game that gets played during the calling—I haven’t managed to play, because I cannot do two things at once, but for the multitaskers, it can be a lot of fun! And we take regular breaks throughout the session, using the Zoom chat to discuss the great romance novels we’re reading!
So okay, here’s that link again: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/665082/
I’m planning to phonebank with Fated States every Saturday from now until we win the election (Because when we fight? We win!) Here’s their website with more info: https://fatedmates.net/fatedstates
Let me know if you’re signing up to phonebank, so I can be sure to give you a wave and a shoutout in the Zoom chat! (Hey, Ann without an E, I hope to see you there! Thank you for showing up last time!!)
Okay! That’s it for now.
Please never stop fighting for our freedom, for our democracy, for equality, equity, peace, love, hope, and for the rights of ALL of our neighbors both here and around the world,
Suz
