Yeah, so in honor of Memorial Day, you’d think this publisher might’ve picked one of my many books with a Navy SEAL hero for their flash-sale, but okay, they chose A Man to Die For, so we’ll roll with that!

In short, this book is $0.99 in the U.S. right now, so if you’re looking to complete your Brockmann backlist e-book collection, check to see if A Man to Die For is in your library. (Heads up, it was recently reissued by the publisher in a 2-in-1 called Nowhere to Run, and I’m pretty sure I shouted about that a few years ago, so if you have that, you’ve already got AMTDF. You don’t need two.)

But if you don’t have it? Act fast. I honestly have no idea how long this sale will last. (Also? This seems to be another US-readers only sale. Ugh. Sorry, international readers.)

A Man to Die For is set in a fictional town on the Gulf Coast of Florida, in the mid 1990s, pre-cell phones and hand-held internet. (It was written back then, too!)

It’s a fun one! The hero is an undercover cop; the heroine is a marine biologist from Montana. They meet (cutely) and dangerous highjinks ensue, with lots of kissing and steamy bits, too!

That thar, above, is the link to my website page for A Man to Die For, which provides info including the book’s blurb, a link to an excerpt, and all of the ebook seller links. (Oh, except for the ones that are old and/or link to that 2-in-1 edition that’s no longer available. Oops! Here’s the correct link for Apple: https://books.apple.com/us/book/a-man-to-die-for/id6469033909 and here’s the link for Kobo: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-man-to-die-for-8 )

In other book news, I just read a really great ARC called WHAT SHE’S HAVING—it’s the second book in Laura Moher’s series set in Galway, North Carolina. (The first book in the series was CURVES FOR DAYS, which was my favorite romance of 2023!) WSH stands alone—you don’t have to read CURVES to enjoy WSH, but you’ll probably want to because both books are just so damn good. Watch for WSH coming out in August. (I’ll remind you as the release date approaches!) I loved this book SO! MUCH! I honestly didn’t think I’d love it more than CURVES, but I did. Made me tear up so many times, and I don’t cry easily. Whew! But this book gave me all of the deep, deep feels. So yeah, WHAT SHE’S HAVING is currently my favorite romance of 2024.

That’s all the book news for now!

My garden is growing like crazy—although we are in the midst of a ground-hog war that we appear to be winning…? (Not today, Ground-hog. Not. Today.)

I also recently watched an excellent German series on Netflix called Deutsches Haus, set in the early 1960s, about a young woman who gets a job as a German/Polish translator for the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials. It was a really nice mix of light and dark—family and romance and life in the early 60s, combined with Germany’s admirably unflinching approach to insisting that we all look directly at the horrors of the Holocaust head-on.

In this series, the young protagonist finds out about the death camps for the very first time at age twenty-four. Watching her awakening—and seeing her reaction to the unforgivable, unimaginably awful crimes—made for a compelling story. The show wasn’t flawless, but it was well worth the watch. (Watch it in the original German with subtitles. Just say no to dubbed dialogue!!) It’s currently streaming on Netflix. Here’s the IMDB link for more info: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14588522/

Last but way not least, I continue to spend a significant time everyday actively participating in the continuing fight for democracy.

If, like me, the news that pro-insurrection flags flew over the home (homes, plural!) of a supposed-to-be-impartial Supreme Court Justice makes you wish you could raise your voice in protest, well, you can! We, as American citizens, (still) have a voice and we can and should use it to speak up and file an official complaint with the court.

I know that sounds hard to do—but it’s not!

A fellow concerned citizen created a website that has easy-to-follow instructions. If we all did this, we could make an impact!

Here’s a quote from Chop Wood, Carry Water, the newsletter where I first heard about this:

I’ve done it—it’s easy to do! It’ll take just a few minutes of your time. And it is so important that we use our voices to speak out in this way—instead of screaming mindlessly into the void!

The download is a word docx, so it’s easy to fill in and then print out.

You need a printer, paper, an envelope, a stamp, and hope in your heart that it’s not too late for a democracy where members of the court believe that their religion trumps not just our rights but the entire U.S. Constitution.

Included in the download is a sample of a “Brief Statement of Facts” (required for the complaint) that you can use as is, or you can use it as a template to write your own. It’s also a good idea to send a copy of your complaint to the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dick Durbin, too. We need to encourage him to do more to address biased judges. His address is included in the download. (So you need two envelopes and two stamps! Well worth it!)

Okay, that’s all the news from me for now!

Love and hugs—and remember that love always wins!

Don't stop fighting for our freedom, for our democracy, for equality, equity, peace, love, and hope,

Suz
